I I FAIR GROUNDS TURF NOTES I 5 -3 Word was received by apprentice Earl Maloney from his contract employer, R. W. Collins, to report for duty at Tropical Park and the youngster will make his departure for Florida Saturday. Beacon Queen and Replica, the property of Mrs. E. Matthews, were registered with racing scretary R. A. Leigh of the Louisiana Jockey Club by E. Matthews who took out a trainers license. Apprentice Paul Keiper, promising youngster from out west, was an arrival from Colorado Friday, and lost no time in getting into action. He was in colors Saturday afternoon. According to trainer L. L. "Duke" Chambers. Grape Thief, which arrived here in a serious condition as the result of car fever, is not responding to treatment and fear is held for the life of the racer. , T R. J. Hamon, owner of Maewhisk, sent the horse to Tropical Park Saturday morning along with the shipment to that point made by H. C. Rumage. Dan. Hardy formerly trained Maewhisk. Application for an apprentice license was filed with the Louisiana Jockey Club stewards by Hugh Gordon, who is under contract to E. E. Russell, and he will pilot some of the horses trained by the Texan. Royal Gillem reported the sale of the four-year-old filly Nogalo to J. A. Kinard, Jr., for a private consideration and the racer, along with Justification, was turned over to F. L. Anderson to train for future engagements. Jockey Ted Atkinson, who rode with a good measure of success at the Fair Grounds since the start of the season, left for Tropical Park where he will be attached to the stable of H. C. Rumage. i
