f CHARLES TOWN TURF NOTES f : g Jockey Herbert Lauch was suspended for three days by starter William Hamilton for disobedience at the starting gate in the second race Friday. S. H. Rogers purchased the sprinter Cru-eand from W. Zakoor late Friday for a sum that was not made, public. The stewards issued a ruling at Charles Town late Friday denying all privileges of the course to J. Cohen for practices detrimental to the best interests of racing. R. S. Kauffman, secretary-treasurer of the Charles Town Jockey Club, returned from Easton, Pa. P. Simms has taken over the training of the plater Hiblaze for T. Presgrave; For a consideration that was not made public, R. V. Parsons purchased the useful sprinter, Pack Away, from W. W. Gift. Thomas C. Bradley, steward, representing the West Virginia Racing Commission, stated that he would leave at the close of the current meeting for New Orleans. Two-year-olds, racing under claiming conditions, met in the initial offering of the afternoon and it gave opportunity for En-gles Lad of the Mrs. J. P. Engle barn to graduate from the maiden ranks when he earned his racing diploma in a driving finish. This was a dash over the Charles Town course, 120 feet more than six furlongs, and the victory took place by a head when he defeated Flying Heart from the Mrs. J. P. Laird stable. Racing in second position early, while Flying Heart held sway by a wide margin in the early part of the contest, the Engle juvenile caught his rivals tiring in the last quarter mile and under jockey Lou Machados energetic finish, drove up in the last lew strides for the score. Third was captured by Prairie Man, one that was held at liberal odds. The stable that B. F. Christmas is racing here will be transferred to Oaklawn Park at the close of the Charles Town meeting. The horses will be concentrated with others of the stable that are being freshened up. Jockey C. Beasy, a recent addition to the riding ranks at Charles Town, accepted his first mount of the meeting Friday when he rode Pierre Andre in the fourth race. Joe Martinez, well known Cuban sportsman, is on the grounds looking for racing material for the winter meeting at Oriental Park. Martinez recently shipped a small draft to the island track.
