TONAS raced to the front soon after the start and, racing well in the going, was never headed, having enough left to hold ZOR. The latter gained steadily when ready and might have won but for meeting with interference from SKY BREEZE in the stretch. He seemed slightly lame after pulling up. SKY BREEZE raced to a contending position in the first quarter and moved up strongly in the stretch, but swerved badly under the whip and was all over the track in the last eighth. CLASPINO made up much ground in the last quarter. RISOTTO was dropped in the worst going on the inside after going half the distance and tired in the stretch. SWEET BERNICE had early speed. THE SHINGLER was forced to race wide. MAILDUN closed a big gap. Scratched 60221 Kievan, 105. Overweight Tonas, 2 pounds; Sweet Bernice, 1. Corrected weight Zor, 113.
