OAKLAWN PARK STATISTICS Ariel Toy Wins Arkansas Derby and Heads Winning Horses. Bad Weather Big Handicap for Hot Springs Management Trainers Causey and Finch in Tie. Bad weather during much of the meeting had a retarding influence on patronage at Oaklawn Park, Hot Springs, this year, but the sport itself was up to the usual standard. Ariel Toy moved into the ranks of the most seriously regarded of the Kentucky Derby candidates by winning the Arkansas Derby in easy fashion. By scoring in that race, the son of Ariel became the Spas leading money-winning horse. His total earnings for the meeting were ,550. The Oaklawn meeting began on February 27 and ended April 1, thirty racing days. The Oaklawn Park Jockey Club gave away 55,500 during the session, a daily average of ,183.33. Two hundred and forty races were run, with 38 per cent of the public choices making good. The Derby was the most valuable race run, having an added value of ,000. H. W. Jackson, owner of Ariel Toy, was the leading money-winning owner, with winnings of ,325. The Blue Ridge Farm Stable was next -with ,225. Riding honors fell to H. Dupuy, who scored astride twenty-eight horses. W. Causey and C. N. Finch each saddled ten horses to tie for training honors.
