WOODLARK was prominent all the way, met determined opposition from CAMBREEZE during the first half mile, then drew clear during the last eighth. CAMBREEZE, hard hustled to get to the front, made a bold bid to maintain her advantage and only gave way during the last eighth. BRIGHT SPOT, slow to settle into her best stride, moved up on the inside to race head and head with the leaders, was caught in close quarters and had to be eased back, then recovered gamely and, despite being under hard urging, was unable to overhaul the first two. ESPRIT was unable to better her position under urging. CHOICE GEM was never a factor. SIX FLAGS, unruly at the post, was quickest to begin, but dropped back steadily. Won easily; second and third driving. FREE AGAIN moved to the front immediately, was under slight restraint during the first half mile, met a bold bid from STAVKA midway of the turn, drew out again when reaching the stretch and, under a brisk hand ride, increased her advantage steadily. STAVKA, taken under slight reserve after gaining a forward position, moved up determinedly approaching the stretch and, despite holding on stubbornly, was unable to seriously endanger the winner. COUNT RAE, well placed all the way, was unable to close any ground on the leaders when called upon. SHANTIME faltered under pressure after going a half mile. The others were never factors. BLOOMER GIRL, rated along back of the leaders for the first half mile, moved up steadily on the outside when called upon, wore down the leaders when reaching the stretch and drew ou.t under brisk urging. LETSELOPE was well placed all the way and held on with good courage to the close. GOOD OMEN displayed good speed from the start, met determined opposition from LIGHT WAVE during the first half mile and had nothing left with which to meet the bids of the first two. CAVOUR was unable to reach the leaders under pressure. SHOTTY was unable to seriously threaten. LIGHT WAVE quit badly after the first half mile. Scratched— 71897 Mctaurus, 116. FLOAT AWAY drew clear in the first quarter mile, increased his lead steadily and won with speed to spare. BIG BULLY was well placed throughout and held on stubbornly to outlast EYE HIGH. The latter raced forwardly all the way and held on with good courage to the close. FRIENDLY PAUL raced evenly throughout. WAR MINSTREL was not hurried during the first eighths, moved up steadily on the inside when called upon, disposed of GALLANT STROKE for the lead when ncaring the stretch and drew out steadily. GALLANT STROKE had speed from the start and, while holding on determinedly, was unable to cope with the challenge of the winner. GENIE PALATINE, slow to begin, moved up fast leaving the back stretch, then came wide into the stretch and closed with good energy. SILENT WITNESS, well placed early, dropped back slightly rounding the far turn, responded gamely through the stretch and was worked out an additional eighth. HOPE DIAMOND, a trailer for the first half mile, closed a good gap through the last three-sixteenths. PANTHER CREEK could never engage the leaders. PIT TERRIER was unable to keep. up. PRINCE DEREK, avoiding the early pace, moved up stoutly when called upon, showed in front briefly between calls in the stretch and, despite holding on gamely, was not quite good enough. A claim of foul was lodged, but not allowed. DARK BEAU raced to the front in the run to the first turn, was rated along under slight restraint, but was unable to match the speed of the first two through the last quarter mile. UPSTREAM was outrun. ODDESA FRANK was unable to better his position under pressure. HOPE ETERNAL, well placed early, went lame and was pulled up. OZARK moved to the leaders gradually in the run through the back stretch, disposed of GUILD for the lead and, hard ridden at the end, lasted to hold the fast-closing PASSING EVE. The latter worked her way " up steadily on the outside and, closing with a rush, just failed to be along in time. GUILD outran her field to the first turn, was rated along under slight restraint and fought it out determinedly to the close. MY WO, prominent early, was unable to keep pace. POWERS GOURAUD moved up stoutly after straightening out in the back stretch, raced to the front when ANCIENT ROME began shortening stride, opened up a commanding advantage, but was doing his utmost at the close to hold the fast-finishing FOREIGN LEGION. The latter, a trailer early, moved up stoutly during the last three-eighths and, obtaining clear sailing along the rail, was wearing down the winner rapidly at the close. LADY GENIE moved up steadily when called upon, made a bold bid to reach the pacemaker, was not good enough and tired during the last sixteenth, then pulled up lame. MALICE moved up stoutly nearing the stretch, but was unable to threaten the remainder of the way. ANCIENT ROME had brief early speed. SUN ASIA was unable to threaten. MJSS HOLLYWOOD, hard ridden to gain a prominent position early, faltered steadily during the last three-eighths. Scratched— 71959 Wrought Iron, 111; 72994 Flag Song, 111; 72907 Mariato, 116.
