1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES ! € Ben Dahlman, turf editor of the Cincinnati Post, motored from the Queen City and spent Tuesday afternoon at Churchill Downs. He was accompanied on the trip by Gene Schmitt. Russell Sweeney, resident manager of La-tonia, came down from his home in Covington, Ky., and will remain here until some time after the Derby. Sweeney reported that the improvements under way at the Covington track are progressing and will be completed before the opening of the summer meeting there. Bennett Creech, who has the main division of Mrs. A. M. Creechs stable quartered at Keeneland, was in Louisville Monday to make arrangements for the ten horses that he intends to transfer to Churchill Downs the latter part of the week. Maurice L. Galvin, secretary-treasurer of the American Turf Association, was at Churchill Downs Monday for a conference with Col. Matt J. Winn, president of the organization, under whose auspices Churchill Downs, Latonia and Lincoln Fields are operated. J. E. Masons Spring Valley Farm will be represented bv the following horses during the Churchill Downs meeting, which begins on Saturday: Gay Jay, Cohort Girl, Relia, Rock Ace, Little Ripper, Black Bonny, Lady Brilliant, and an unnamed two-year-old by Mirafel — Inzor. Baylor O. Hickmans Avesta, Kentucky Derby eligible, which wrenched his back in a workout ten days ago, recovered sufficiently to enable him to indulge in a light gallop at Douglas Park Mondav morning.
