1 NARRAGANSETT PARK NOTES | « . 4 W. E. Charles, Jr., will make the engagements for H. Krovitz, who is under contract to O. L. Foster. Krovitz won the opening race of the meeting on Goldman. Earl Kelley has purchased Distractible from his brother Paul at private sale. He has also purchased Merry Caroline from J. C. Little, also at private sale. Sheldon H. Fairbanks, who has an extensive string campaigning at Narragansett, is confined to his Boston home with a severe attack of the grippe. Phil Bieber, who underwent an operation at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, is reported doing nicely by his trainer, S. R. j Shapoff. Jockey Ray Hightshoe arrived and will ride free lance during the spring meeting. Ray has his young brother Ralph with him and is teaching him to ride. The boy is galloping horses for Mrs. V. Wyse. • Lou Smith announces the dates for his Kings Park meeting in Montreal will be from June 3 to June 19. Work was started Monday morning on the new grandstand and other improvements that will be made at Rockingham Park. Plans to have steeplechasing at Rockingham Park have been discarded. The management was unable to obtain the promise of suitable performers for their meetings j and thought it best that no events be listed through the field this year. Silent Witness, Tobey Trotters Kentucky Derby hope, worked a half-mile in :48% Wednesday morning. The colt was entered in the Woonsocket Purse, overnight feature j of Wednesdays card. He will be shipped to Kentucky late this week. The annual meeting of the New England Turf Writers will be held at the Hotel Lenox, Boston, Thursday evening, April 27. S. Mecili arrived from Maryland bringing 1in Blackmail and Traicionero. C. Ponce came in from Maryland with Sir Reg, Night , Wire and Sea Gull. Frank Dunn, who is campaigning a useful string here, will send a new rider to the ranks in B. O. Easterlin of New Orleans, during this meeting. Charles "Shorty" Faranna has been granted a trainers license and will condition the horses of Woods Garth. Joe Martinez is now training for M. H. Barnett, Boston sportsman who has Harp Weaver, OCleary and Prince Alex at Gansett. Three jockeys made their first starts of the New England season Tuesday. G. Moore accepted a mount on Jim Blazes in the first race and on Viajero in the fourth race. W. Hileman had the leg up on Blue Flame and Bright Sox in the second and third, respectively. Apprentice P. Breslin also swung into action on Nalita J. in the fourth. Apprentice J. Harrell, under .contract to Willis Sharpe Kilmer, was granted a license Wednesday morning and will be seen in action shortly.
