I 1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES I s E. E. Fogelsons Smart Crack, which triumphed in her only start at Keeneland a few days ago, was returned to Churchill Downs by trainer Bob McGarvey. Ralph Mcllvain, trainer of the horses owned by the Indian Lake Stable, now being raced at Keeneland, was a visitor at Churchill* Downs Monday and while here made preparations for the thoroughbreds that will be transferred here later in the week. Broomian, one of the Friedberg and Axton thoroughbreds, was returned to Churchill Downs by trainer Jack Hanover and Good Servant was sent to Keeneland to fill the vacancy in the stable. Jesse Spencer sent five horses from Lexington to Churchill Downs and hopes to augment the stable with a like, number by the end of the current week. Those which went into quarters at the Louisville track were Harper, Goodandslick, Peppy, Sweet Tone and a juvenile. An avalanche of registrations were received from Lexington, where Larry Bogen-schutz is accepting them at Keeneland, and the racing secretarys office was going at top speed with the beginning of the week. Headed by the Kentucky Derby eligible, Calexico, and the Oaks candidate, Flying Lill, a consignment of eleven thoroughbreds Cliff Porter is handling for C. H. Cleary, Chicago sportsman, is expected at Churchill Downs. They have been engaged in competition at Keeneland since the start of that meeting. E. H. Hurleys Seven Acre Farm horses, which are in charge of E. B. Carpenter and will be available for racing during the Churchill Downs meeting, include Shining Sun, Pharaboo, Princess Torch, Betty Torch and Empty Bottle. Former jockey Dave Bryant, who added the two-year-old Charlie Ariel to the stable he is training for his wife, will send Gen. Greenock and Roras Lass, also the property of Mrs. Bryant, and Grand Inning, a two-year-old belonging to B. N. Shropshire, from, Lexington.
