AI-LING was rushed up fast after being buffeted about during the opening sixteenth, drew clear midway of the turn met determined opposition from MASTER HOWARD the entire length of the stretch and outlasted him at the close. MASTER HOWARD, forwardly placed all the way, moved up on the outside of the leader when reaching the stretch and, despite responding gamely, was not quite good enough. AH-MI worked her way up gradually and held on well in the closing test. VANISHING HOPE closed a big cap after being outpaced early. CORDATE made up some ground although never in a position to endanger the leaders. HI HONEY was never prominent. HOT METAL quit badly after a brief display of early speed. MAEBEAU, unable to keep pace during the run through the back stretch, moved up on the outside rounding the far turn and, moving into contention with a rush, disposed of WAY YONDER for the lead, drawing out steadily. WAY YONDER, forwardly placed, withstood early opposition from MAESTRUNG, dis-• posed of him and, called upon to meet a determined bid from STAR PUPIL, held the latter safe, but was unable to cope with the challenge of the winner. STAR PUPIL, under reserve for the first three-eighths, moved to the pacemaker steadily nearing the stretch and, while unable to get to the front, held on willingly in the drive. SUN ARBOR, prominently placed, was unable to better his position when placed under punishment. BRIGHT SPOT was unable to reach the loaders. MR. TRICKWICK moved to the front before the first eighth had been completed, opened up a good load and, rated along in front, had enough in reserve to hold PUMPGUN safe. The latter moved up gradually during the last three-eighths, came through on the inside at the stretch turn and closed with good energy. CHANCER was well placed all the way, although unable to keep pace in the final drive. CRUISING was unable to reach the leaders when called upon, although racing well placed during the early running. NOTICE ME moved up on the inside after the opening three-eighths, although unable to close any ground during the last quarter mile. ROYAL BIT was outrun after leaving the back stretch. JANE VITO, under slight restraint for the first half mile while racing in close attendance of the pace, responded gamely when called upon and, gaining command, held DINNER JACKET safe through the last sixteenth. The latter moved up steadily on the outside after swinging from the back stretch, gained a brief lead nearing the stretch and fought it out determinedly to the end. GOLDMAN displayed speed from the start, holding on gamely to the close, although unable to go along with the first two when challenged. MINIMUM moved up steadily on the inside after the first three-eighths, loomed up threat-«ningly and, while saving ground into the stretch, was unable to better his position in the closing drive. The latter moved up on the outside, was under a hard drive and, despite responding camcly to punishment, was not good enough. BEAVER COUNTY, slow to begin and outrun early, finished with a belated rush and was along in the closing stride to wear down STAVKA. The latter, on the inside all the way and close up, was under punishment in an effort to reach the leaders and hung during the closing seventy yards. SOME BOY trailed his field into the, back stretch, began moving to the leaders rounding the far turn and, taking the lead when FLYING ORPHAN began tiring, drew out steadily. PRINCE DEAN, permitted to settle into his best stride, worked his way up steadily during the last half mile and, closing gamely, was along in the last strides to wear down WROUGHT IRON. The latter obtained clear sailing on the inside down the back stretch, moved up stoutly, was head and head with the leader, then dropped back suddenly, came again nearing the stretch and closed with good energy. FLYING ORPHAN, knocked to her knees at the first turn, was taken up and rushed up fast after straightening out down the back stretch and had nothing left for the closing test. LONG BIT, on the outside, was unable to make up any ground. TRANSBRIAR, unruly at the post, had brief early speed. KING BONNY quit.
