CHINA PLANNING LONG WAR LOS ANGELES, Calif., May 2.— China is planning for a long war that may last five, ten or even thirty years, Prof. Hubert S. Liang, director of the Shanghai Institute of Social Sciences, said today in discussing his countrys conflict with Japan. "This is the most tragic, most blood-thirsty and the crudest war in history," the educator said, adding the following statistics: "One million Japanese and one million and a half Chinese soldiers have been killed or wounded. Five to ten million Chinese civilians have been killed or wounded and thirty million other Chinese civilians have been divested of their property and means of earning a living. "For China," continued the educator, "the issue in this war is shall we be a free nation or shall we be Japanese slaves for the next hundred years." No matter how long the war lasts, we Chinese believe we will win."
