i 1 URGES POLAND TO STAND j | FIRM FOR ITS RIGHTS .-.-.--a LONDON, England, May 2.— The British government brought pressure on Poland today to stand firm in defiance of Chancellor Adolf Hitlers demands for restoration of Danzig to the Reich and for a German highway across the Polish Corridor, linking Pomerania with East Prussia. Authoritative British and Polish quarters said Great Britain was urging the Warsaw government to maintain the stiffest possible attitude, particularly regarding Hitlers demands in the Corridor. These circles reiterated that Poland is determined to fight to maintain her rights in the Corridor and thus resist what the Polish government regards as a German move to cut Poland off from the Baltic Sea. High British and Polish circles in London also reiterated "that both Britain and France are determined to assist Poland if she fights to preserve her rights in the Polish Corridor, irrespective of whether Soviet Russia comes to their aid.
