B C C £ j I 1 , -j i i ■ , QUIGLEY COMING FOR DERBY Returns Shortly Afterward to Coast to Prepare Del Mar. Crosby Track Opening on August 2 and Closing on September 4 — Generous Stakes and Purses. SAN DIEGO, Calif., May 2.— William A. Quigley, vice-president and general manager of the Del Mar Turf Club, will arrive in Kentucky on Wednesday for the running of the Derby. Flying from California, Quigley will visit in Lexington, and go on from there to Louisville for the great three-year-old classic. While in the Blue Grass country Quigley will be the guest of governor A. B. Chandler and turfman J. Fred Miles. He will attend the Kentucky Colonels Dinner, and will be present at many other functions both before and after the big race at Churcnill Dowrs. He plans to visit in Baltimore and witness the running of the Preakness Stakes on the following week-end. From there he will return direct to Del Mar to prepare for the opening of the summer racing season, August 2— down "Where the Turf Meets the Surf." The Del Mar Turf Club, summer home of Bing Crosby, its president, and a host of Hollywood stars, is looking forward to the best season of racing in its history. Already many of the best known stables, both western and eastern, have signified their intentions of shipping to the "little Saratoga" in order to compete for. the generous stakes and purses listed on its schedule. Del Mar has become famous not only for its racing, but for the perfection of its summer climate and its varied amusements which make it the ideal vacation-land of the Pacific Coast. The meeting will open on Wednesday, August 2, and close on Labor Day, September 4.
