Pershall has his stable here in charge of Tommy Root. Ike J. Collins, Ohio sportsman, and a party of friends came in to spend the rest of the ; week. Collins has a stable of horses here 1 in the care of trainer Al Miller. E. E. Fogelson, William F. Morgan and C. N. Andrade III., wealthy Texas turf patrons, and a large party of friends and relatives were expected today from -the Lone Star State. J. Shirley Riley, Roanoke, Va., arrived and will remain until after the Derby. His horses are racing in the East. Clayton Trippy, Oklahoma boy, came here with Li. J. Schaefer, trainer of the W. L. Brann stable, and was astride Challedon in his good workout Tuesday morning. Trippy has handled this horse, since he was a yearling. Tiny Scofield, formerly connected with the Millsdale stable, is in Louisville and is anxious to obtain a situation. He has been connected with the turf since his boyhood. Mr. and Mrs. Morris Vehon return Wednesday from Chicago and expect to stay for the balance of the meeting as several of their horses have important stakes engagements here. The Vehon horses are handled by Jake Lowenstein. John C. Shea, trainer of George M. Hen-dries stable, said that Hendrie will be here some time next week from his winter home in Florida and at that time may be expected to announce plans for his stable which currently is participating in the racing here. The Glad Acres Farms juveniles, which developed slight coughs after their arrival from Lexington, are reported by trainer Johnny Zoeller to be vastly improved. An injury sustained during the Florida season has deterred the training of Blue Trace and the three-year-old is not expected to be ready for competition until mid-summer, according to trainer I. J. Killion. Charles Respess, veteran member of the Churchill Downs mutuel crew, is confined to his home in Covington, Ky., and may be forced to be absent from the Kentucky Derby for the first time in a number of years. J. R. "Red" Gregory is seeking the serv- ices of jockey Warren Yarberry, who is under contract to Joseph E. Widener, for Mrs. Cecil Gregorys Lostagal in the Kentucky Derby. Jockeys Jimmy Stout and Basil James, who will have the mounts on Johnstown and Heather Broom, respectively, in the Ken-1 tucky Derby, are scheduled to arrive from the East Friday morning. Apprentice Murphy Trahan, who began his riding career last winter and is regarded as a good prospect, will do the major portion of the riding for the Border Farm during the Churchill Downs meeting. Trainer James Fitzsimmons, of William Woodwards Belair Stud, is due to arrive at Churchill Downs Friday morning, at which time he will decide whether both Johnstown and Challenge, shipped from New York, will compete in the Kentucky Derby. Charles Wells, ninety-five pound riding prospect from Lexington, Ky., recently pur- chased from the Calumet Farm stable of Warren Wright by W. H. Williamson, who races the Indian Lake Stable, is expected to have his first mount for his new employer Wednesday. Wells is a maiden jockey and had several mounts on the Chicago circuit : last year. Burley Parke Tuesday registered the juve-1 niles Miss June Bug, Shakertown and Lambeth • for Mrs. Roy Carruthers and the three-3 • year-old Kissem for the Millsdale Stable. The : horses are at Keeneland and will not be sent here until next week. Mrs. Stevens Zachar, daughter of H. N. . Lape, Columbus, Ohio, turf patron and manufacturer, is flying here from Miami to witness Saturdays running of the Derby. Lape has several horses in training here. An arrival from Miami was Mrs. Frank J. Navin, whose Tall Trees Stable is taking part in the Downs meeting. Mrs. Navin will remain until after the Derby,
