BROOK was slow to begin and, outpaced for the first three-eighths, moved up steadily when called upon, responded gamely when reaching the stretch, attempted to move up on the outside, was forced to go to the inside of the leaders when ESPRIT started bearing out and, hard ridden, was along in the concluding stride. ESPRIT had speed from the start, was under slight reserve while in closest chase of the pace, gained command and fought it out determinedly. SUNABELL improved his position gradually, finished with good courage and was up right at the end to wear down MAESTRUNG. The latter had good speed from the outset, only to falter through the last three-sixteenths. WISE HILDRED was unable to better her position in the drive. LIGHT YEAR tired. DEEDS in the run through the back stretch, opened up a commanding advantage after leaving the back stretch and was never seriously . threatened, winning with speed to spare. JOANEY B. was slow to begin, began working her way up gradually and closed with good energy. OLD DOMINION, well placed all the way, continued willingly to the close. MINEY MYERSON was unable to better his position when placed under pressure. MR. DEEDS was much used in racing with the winner and tired after going a half mile. MIXED WEATHER, slightly reserved early, was unable to close any ground when called upon. METAURUS, slow to settle into stride, closed some ground through the stretch. DANCING DOLL faltered through the stretch run as if short. BALL-O-FIRE, well placed all the way, was under intermittent punishment through the last five-sixteenths, moved up steadily and, wearing down EPITAPH, outlasted the latter at the end. EPITAPH had speed from the start, met determined early opposition from GHOST TRAIN and, holding on stubbornly when challenged, was not quite good enough. GHOST TRAIN had good speed while disputing the pace for the first half mile and was unable to go along with the first two during the stretch drive. PAY RACK showed a good effort, although unable to cndaimer the leaders. COBE, away slowly and lacking speed to enter contention, made up some ground. NOON STEP raced to the front in the opening strides, opened up a long lead and, faltering through the last sixteenth, barely lasted long enough to hold the fast-finishing HARD LU. The latter, unable to keep the pace early, came stoutly through the stretch and was wearing down the winner rapidly at the close. SUN PHAROS moved up gamely on the inside leaving the back stretch, was under pressure in an effort to catch the leader and tired through the last seventy yards from his early efforts. FIVE O FIVE was. going willingly at the end after being slow to settle in her best stride. FLOAT AWAY was not hurried during the early running, began working his way forwardly after swinging from the back stretch, came to the outside for the closing test and, finishing- fast, was along in the last few strides to wear down MYSTERY MISS. The latter had speed from the start, met determined opposition from GRISETTE during the first five-eighths and, disposing of her, just failed to hold on long .enough. SAVITAR moved up gamely in the last five-sixteenths while saving ground and held on gamely to the end. PHARABOY followed along within striking distance of the pace, came wide into the stretch and was unable to make up any ground. GRISETTE displayed good speed while disputing the pace,, but gave way badly through the last sixteenth. PETER ARGO was unable to reach the leaders. BRANHAM had brief early speed. WARRIOR at the end. The latter had speed from the start, gained a slight lead over BRANCH WATER straightening out on the back stretch, fought it out stubbornly when supplanted in the command, but was not quite 2°°d enough. TIME BEATER, well placed, was under hard urging during the last three-eighths, "but was unable to endanger the top two. FLAMING PETEE, well up, was unable to better his position when placed under pressure. BRANCH WATER had good speed, faltering during the last five-sixteenths. COUNTRY JIM was outrun all the way. JANE VITO had speed from the outset, fought it out gamely and only tired during the last seventy yards. TRICKWICK moved up on the inside leaving the back stretch, saved ground at the final turn and closed some ground during the stretch drive. PHALASAN, well placed while racing on the inside, came to the outside when reaching the stretch, but was unable to close any ground. HUNTING HOME was unable to enter into serious contention.
