JONNIE NUCHOLS, away well and reserved early, moved forward on the inside with a rush, was bothered by SORTIES SON when going into command when inside the final eighth, recovered quickly and had something left. SORTIES SON, steadied along early, improved his position on the outside, forged to the front entering the stretch, bore over on the winner, held on well and pulled up sore. COLONEL ED established a clear lead under hustling tactics, set a good pace, failed to withstand the leaders and tired rapidly in the last stages. RICH GIRL showed an even effort. BLACK GIFT had speed for five-eighths and gave way steadily in the drive. BACHELORS BOWER and EMIR were outrun. Overweight — Sorties Son, 2 pounds. NINTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. MOON BOW MISS, reserved early, moved forward when ready, established a clear lead after going into command at the stretch turn, but tired near the end and was unable to withstand the winner. GOLDEN SHOE improved her position after five-eighths and tired in the drive. HALLIE made up ground. COPPER ROD had no mishaps. VIRAGIN was unable to keeji up. CORN FIELD was done after five-eighths. HIGH RENOWN, hustled to the front, raced into a big lead after five-sixteenths and quit badly after relinquishing the lead.
