1 FAIRMOUNT PARK NOTES f * Apprentice Lorraine Gardelle had the first mount of his career when he had the leg up on Rich Cream in the opening day Inaugural Handicap Saturday. Gardelle. who is sixteen years of age, is a native of Waterloo, Iowa, and is under contract to Bert Bagley. The lad scales 80 pounds. Jockey Alex Schlenker, who rode here successfully as an apprentice last year, was unable to be present for the opening day program here Saturday, due to an infected foot injury which detained him at his Chicago home. Schlenker will be here ready to accept mounts the latter part of the week. J. A. Kirk will handle the lads riding engagements. Eddie Griffin, custodian of the jockey quarters, announced additions to the riding colony here over the week-end when jockey Sterling Vail, who. arrived from Columbus, Ohio, J. Mayer from Louisville and L. "Tex" Wilson checked in. G. F. Jenkins arrived from Arlington, Texas, with three horses belonging to Mrs. B. Campbell, and Phalamo and Ski, which Jenkins will campaign for J. H. Tate. W. H. Stephens registered his newly-acquired racers My Grandson, Perplex and Bunny Jr., which he purchased at private terms from Bert Bagley, acting for the Blue Ridge Stock Farm. The sale was consummated Saturday. Jose D. Rodriguez purchased from M. L. Staton the contract the latter held on apprentice Raymond Jones. Rodriguez has high hopes for the young reinsman. Jones first winning mount was Scotch Thistle, which he piloted to victory at the recent Oaklawn Park meeting.
