COL. WINN COMING TO CHICAGO Highly Elated Over the Success of Saturdays Kentucky Derby — To Inaugurate Chicago Season. LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 8.— Radiant over the success of Saturdays Kentucky Derby, which attracted a record-breaking throng of 80,000 or more persons, Col. M. J. Winn, president of the American Turf Association and head of Churchill Downs, was finishing lip Derby business today in preparation for his departure tomorrow for Chicago. Col. Winn is going to the Illinois metropolis to complete plans for the opening of the Chicago racing season at Lincoln Fields, whose meeting runs from May 25, through June 24. Colonel Winn, naturally, was pleased with the business Churchill Downs handled on Derby Day, and he believes the increase over last year accurately marks an upward trend : racing throughout the Middle West can ex-, pect this year. j The veteran turf impresario is quite optimistic over the outlook for racing in the Chicago sector this summer, and he confidently looks for Lincoln Fields to have one of its best seasons in some years. Colonel Winn is not expected back in Louisville, except for possible quick trips, since the affairs of the Crete track will occupy most of his time the next few weeks.
