FAIRMOUNT REOPENS TODAY Expect Innovation of Dark Mondays to Help the Meeting Financially* Saturdays Inaugural Quite Successful — Dark Skies and Showers Monday Predicate Off Track for Today. COLLINSVILLE, 111., May 8.— Racing at Fairmount Park will continue without interruption throughout the week with the resumption of" the sport Tuesday. It is quite possible the innovation, this season, of "dark" Mondays will add to the success of the meeting. Saturdays opening was an auspicious one and, because of the enthusiastic response with which the return of the thoroughbred was met on opening day, it is probable that those in attendance welcomed a respite from the sport Monday. Saturdays program of eight races was all that could be desired. There were a number of bristling events. Close finishes; which brought into use the Thomas Speed X Camera to determine the ultimate winner, heightened the sport. The thrill of closely-ccn-tested finishes, however, was not the only excitement furnished the crowd. Favorites also came in for their share of support, and although the public choices did not score in the majority of the events, still the entrants receiving the bulk of the wagering gave good accounts of themselves. CLAIMING RACE CARD. The claiming tag is attached to all eight races on Tuesdays program, no feature race being carded for this day. Although the program is given over to selling platers, there are a number of events which are for horses of the higher brackets. One of these, carded as sixth on the program, is the Daily Racing Form Purse, which is the best of the eight events. In it thirteen sprinters will traverse the six furlongs distance to decide the winners share of the 00 purse. In the sixth race, which is for three-year-olds -and older, such favorite sprinters to this sector as Radio Charm, Maiden Dream, Little Hig, Snow Flower and Goshen are included in the event. The program will offer three distance affairs, the fifth and eighth races at one mils and the seventh at a mile and a sixteenth. The remaining five events are sprint affairs. The program opener is a dash of four and one-half furlongs in which twelve two-year-olds will go postward. Dark skies and showers prevailed Monday with indications for an off track Tuesday. The post time for Tuesdays first race will be 2 p. m.
