1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES | s - s The two-year-old Spanish Duke was shipped to New York, where he will be taken over by C. M. Knebelkamp. Trainer Ralph Baird sent Mrs. John D. Hertz Count Dopey, Streakaway and Countess Sneezey to trainer Don Cameron in New York, while three others belonging to the same owner are to be turned over to Burley Parke. The latter trio consists of Reigh Dear, Red Amazon and Count Fitz. Baird, acting for his employer, sold The Sower to Mrs. Mae Bagley. Jockey Earl Steffen announced he had severed his connections with Valdina Farms and will ride free lance during the remainder of the meeting. Steffen has received two offers for his services, but may not reach a decision for several days. John Marsch and Dr. John Klein, whose , horses are trained by Roscoe Goose, motored to Lexington Sunday to inspect the Marsch breeding. stock and foals quartered there. They returned to their Chicago homes from Lexington. Jack Hanover, trainer of the Friedberg and Axton horses, stated he has engaged John Oros to ride Bala Ormont, and Warren Yar-berry to handle Montsin in their Kentucky Oaks engagements. Countess Lena, a four-year-old daughter of Reigh Count and Vanity Fair, the property of Mrs. Frank J. Navin, was bred to Gay Monarch on Monday. The latter, the property of William E. Smith, stands at Mrs. Thomas Murphys Golden Maxim place. John J. Flanigan, trainer of Valdina Farms, will receive sixteen two-year-old colts Saturday. They are coming from Valdina Farms, at Sabinal, Texas. The brood mare Miss Em and her foal, by Sir West, were purchased by E. C. Roth Monday from J. F. ONeil and will be shipped to the Roth farm in Illinois. Miss Em was bred back to Sir West, also recently acquired "by Roth.
