DR. McLARNEY REPEATS Holds Nose Margin Over Hadnogal in Thrilling Finish. Ideal Weather Conditions Prevail for Second Week-End Program at the Collinsville Track. COLLINSVILLE, 111., May 13. — J. J. and J. R. Porters useful gelding, Dr. McLarney, a seven-year-old son of Nutcracker — Canny Lady, accounted for his second consecutive victory of the current meeting and the third of the year when he proved superior over Hadnogal in the running of the fourth race Saturday at Fairmount Park. At the end of the mile and seventy yards race, which was for three-year-olds and older, Dr. McLarney was winner by the small margin of a nose. Hadnogal was some three lengths before Night Gail. Jubilee C. was fourth in the field of eight. The winner, which had the services of apprentice William Cassity, was away well from a good start and. held in fourth position while Hadnogal showed the way to the field. After a quarter of a mile had been negotiated Cassity spurred his mount forward to reach second place. Hadnogal continued in the lead until the half-mile mark had been reached. At this point Dr. McLarney forged to the front by a slight margin and kept his lead, although slight, to the finish; LARGE TURNOUT. The second Saturday afternoon of sport provided much excitement for the large crowd which was in attendance. Ideal weather conditions prevailed and were partly responsible for the large turnout. The mu-tuel wagering exceeded last Saturdays mark. In the feature offering of the day, the Brooklyn Club Handicap, seven of the best racers on the ground met to decide the winners share of the ,200 purse over the mile distance. Jockey Leyland Lake proved a prominent factor in driving I See to the finish line a head in advance of Blind Star to garner the laurels of the third event, at six furlongs. I See, in scoring her second straight victory, was steadied along while saving ground in the early stages of the sprint. Unable to j gain clear racing room while Blind Star was leading the field, Lake sent I See to the outside and, allowing her to settle into her best stride, overcame Blind Star in the run to the finish. Displaying the good form of her previous start, Crulia entered the winners circle in accounting for the six furlongs second race. Laurel Wreath, attempting his second straight victory, gave way to Crulia in the final stages, but saved the place easily from ! Oxford Lad. j _W. C. Reichert, Illinois sportsman, fur-; nished the winner in the first race when Miss Pittypat, favorite for the event, reached the end of the six furlongs sprint two lengths in advance of Little Hig. Brilliant Stone was third over Walter L. and five others. Well handled by apprentice Otto Grohs, leading jockey of the current meeting, the! Reichert colorbearer was well placed in the early stages and, responding to mild urging when guided to the outside for the stretch run, and overhauled the leaders to take command inside the final furlong and win drawing away.
