w 1 CHURCHILL DOWNS NOTES I s s The five horses that R. B. Allen has here for Mrs. R. B. Allen and O. C. Miles will be vanned to Detroit tomorrow. • W. H. Whitehouse, Cincinnati racing pa tron, came over from the Queen City for the Kentucky Oaks program. Jockey Melvin Calvert will leave Louisville Sunday by motor for Detroit, where he plans to ride free lance during the season in the Motor City. Ross O. Higdon announced the purchase of the four-year-old filly, Babe Taylor, from Irvin Kort. Terms were private. Apprentice W. C. Huff makes his departure Sunday for Columbus, Ohio, where he will report to Larry Daly, trainer of the C. W. F. Scott horses. Prince Torch and Veeks, owned by Frank Abbate and Lifelike, Delaynot and Byroe, the property of Dominick DiBello, are to be transferred to Lincoln Fields Sunday. Jockey Joe Marinelli is with Abbate. Kissing Cup, Our Winnie, Irish Semble, Dustless and Nashvilian, all two years old, have been added to the stable K. S. Cleave-land is training. The youngsters came from Tennessee. A. B. Letellier, New Orleans sportsman, and Mrs. Letellier left for New York where they will spent several .weeks with their daughter, Mrs. Anthony Pelleteri, before returning to the Crescent City. Jockey Carroll Bierman, who was called to Chicago a few days ago because of the illness of his wife, returned Saturday to fill his engagement on Mrs. C. H. Clearys Flying Lill in the Kentucky Oaks. Bierman reported that Mrs. Biermans condition has improved and he now plans to remain here until the close of the season next Saturday. Riverby Farms Worpoise returns to Beulah Park on Sunday, according to plans of A. K. Miller, who brought the daughter of Equipoise here to fill her engagement in the Kentucky Oaks. Dr. C. N. Finch, Indiana breeder and owner, announced he will have a stable of eighteen to carry his colors at North Randall. Jockeys E. Thomas and J. Hooker will accompany the Finch establishment to the Ohio course. Thomas Young returned from Lincoln Fields where he spent several days going over improvements and preparations for the coming meeting at that track. Ray Kindred reported the shipment of three horses owned by Louis B. Mayer from Churchill Downs to Hollywood Park this morning. The horses are Flying Mary, Lynn and Glamour Girl. Kindred will have eighteen head for racing at Lincoln Fields under the movie producers colors. Mrs. R. J. Murphys Imeblue was excused from the third race on Saturdays program on the report of trainer Otis Clelland that the gelding had cast himself in his stall, injuring a leg. L. B. Rutledge registered two three-year-olds, the property of S. H. Rutledge. They are Mary Allie and Pattie R. At the conclusion of the Churchill Downs meeting, former jockey Tommy Root will send the S. J. Pershall horses to Lincoln Fields. According to Kirby Ramsey the useful handicap campaigner, Mucho Gusto, will be ready for his 1939 debut during the Lincoln Fields meeting. He has been made eligible for several stakes that will engage members of the older division at the Crete track. A. L. Taylor, trainer of the horses owned by H. N. Lape, Columbus shoe manufacturer, left for his home in Columbus to attend to some business matters and will return here early next week. Ed Fleming, a director of the American Turf Association, and Pete ONeil, returned from Chicago for the week-end of racing. Maurice L. Galvin came down from Covington and took in Saturdays sport at the Downs. Samuel H. McMeekin, former racing official and now safety director of Louisville, viewed Saturdays racing from Col. M. J. Winns box. Charles H. Cleary and Mrs. Cleary arrived from their home in Chicago Saturday to root for Flying Lill, which represented Mrs. Cleary in the Kentucky Oaks.
