NEW AIR-MAIL STAMP FOR ] TRANS-ATLANTIC MAIL I ~~ ~4 The Post Office Department, Washington, D. C, has advised of the issuance of a new air-mail stamp in the thirty-cent denomination primarily for use on trans-Atlantic airmail, which service is now about to be inaugurated, but valid for all airmail purposes. The new stamp conforms in size and general design to the six-cent airmail stamp issued in 1934, except for the change in denomination and the added inscription: "Trans-Atlantic." The stamp is printed in blue ink. It will be first placed on sale at New York, N. Y., on May 16, 1939, and will be available at other post offices, to conform to local requirements, beginning May 17 or as soon thereafter as the stamps can be printed and distributed. The thirty-cent trans-Atlantic airmail stamp will be placed on sale at the Philatelic agency for the benefit of stamp collectors on May 17, 1939, but the agency will not prepare covers for mailing on that date. All mail orders to the Philatelic agency should be restricted to the new stamp to insure prompt shipment.
