. j TEXAS TECH EXPELLED TUCSON, Ariz., May 13.— Texas Tech, of Lubbock, one of the nations most powerful 1938 football teams, was expelled today from the Border Conference by unanimous vote. Date of the expulsion was made effective June 30 by faculty representatives of the conference. The reason was "repeated violation of eligibility regulations." The application of another Texas school, Hardin-Sim-mons, was refused because of the conferences current non-expansion policy. It was announced the conference will enter into a contract with the Sun Carnival at El Paso, assuring representation in the annual New Years Day football battle. One of the charges against Texas Tech was that "Chief" Jones and Bobby Holmes, Haskell Institute transfers, were used against St. Marys of California in the Cotton Bowl game in Dallas last January. Tech officials had been warned the two players were ineligible prior to the game, it was stated. Ousting of Tech from the Border Conference probably will lose them the chance to get into the Southwest Conference.
