HOLLYWOOD PARK MEETING Second Summer Session to Open on Decoration Day, May 30. Considerable Number of Innovations and Improvements Completed— Horse Colony Growing. . INGLEWOOD, May 13.— Southern Californias race enthusiasts are now turning their j eyes toward the opening, May 30, of the second summer racing season at Hollywood Park. Workmen are rushing to completion the program of improvements outlined by general manager J. F. Mackenzie. Stables from all over the West are pouring into the track, bringing stable population well past the 400 mark with new arrivals expected daily. The re-decoration of the lower floor of the clubhouse and the erection of adequate crowd facilities on the extended standing terrace north of the grandstand, were completed this week. Hundreds of gardeners are busy turning the infield and surrounding grounds into landscaped beauty spots which are sure to draw the "ohs" and "ahs" of patrons during the forty-six day meeting. A new innovation at Hollywood Park this season will be collapsible stools placed next to the rail along the grandstand ramp. There will be accommodations for hundreds of people to rest, read their programs, and never lose their advantageous positions near the rail. The walls of the grandstand lounge, which is located on the mezzanine floor directly above the enclosed paddock, will be covered with lovely color photographs of California breeding farms and famous horses which are standing at the states many thoroughbred nurseries. Nearly one-third of the horses in the stable area here are two-year-olds. All are going through the process known as "schooling" — learning the right way to break in motion, the intricacies of tl?e receiving barn and the way to behave in the enclosed paddock. Some of the new arrivals at Hollywood Park are A. A. Baronis Silver State Stable with Specify, Rolling Ball and others; Lawrence Barkers string of Chilean-bred horses, including Vespasiano and Sumatra in.; the W-L Ranch stable, owned by H. M. Warner and Mervyn LeRoy, which includes a dozen well-bred two-year-olds, and the stable of IBing Crosby, with the crack California-bred, High Strike.
