GOOD OFFICIALS FOR WHEELING Competent Staff Secured to Govern Sport During Spring Meeting Opening on May 27. WHEELING, W. Va., May 13.— Wilmer J. Brinton, prominent Maryland official, will represent the West Virginia Jockey Club in the stewards stand during the spring meeting, opening May 27 at Wheeling Downs. The selection of Brinton, confirmed yesterday by the State Racing Commission, gives the Downs a veteran official, who is recognized as one of the ablest men in the East. The complete list of officials as approved by the commission was announced today by Edward J. Brennan, managing director. In addition to Brinton, who served here last year, the stewards stand will include J. J. Graddy, representing the West Virginia Racing Commission, and Malcolm T. Brice, dean of West Virginia sports writers. The selection of Brice, who has served as a racing official at Wheeling for more than a decade, was the choice of Wilmer J. Brinton. Brennan announced that the placing judges will be J. Gilber Haus, Henry Carroll and racing secretary William H. Shewbridge. All of these men were in the stands last fall and their return is another indication of high-class racing here during the sixteen-day period. James Considine, of the I/ort Mahony organization, will again be in charge of the mutuel department.- Consijdine has been at the head of the Downs mutuel plant during the last three meetings and his direction of the mutuels drew fine comment from the fans.
