Joshua Runs Fast Six Furlongs at Pawtucket Timed in 1:10 to Turn Back Challenge of Atomic Waye NARRAGANSETT PARK, Pawtucket, R. I., June 28. Gait Davis Heliopolis gelding, Joshua, showed the fastest six furlongs of the New England season this afternoon when he held Atomic Wave and Radar Man safe in the drive, capturing the featured Waverly purse in 1 : 10 . It -was a sparkling effort and marked the ex-platers third successive victory. Joshua was vigorously ridden by "Buddy" Robt, and his margin at the wire was only three parts of a length, but was drawing gradually away from Atomic Wave, and was certainly the best. Warm weather, somewhat mitigated by a light breeze, brought out a crowd of 12,478. And this gathering was not particularly fortunate as far as form was concerned, Joshua, in the main event, being the first favorite to score. Joshua rewarded his backers with even money, his support due to a smashing effort at this track two weeks ago. Joshua, Probation and Atomic Wave were the early leaders in which the field left the gate well bunched at the start of the Waverly. In the run down the backstretch, Atomic Wave came through on the rail to take a slight advantage over Joshua, while Probation dropped back. The pace was fast with the. first quarter in :22, nor did it slacken as the leaders raced to the half in :45. At this point, it was still Atomic Wave on the inside with Joshua lapped on the Bull Brier colt and obviously full of run. Swinging for home, Root called on the favorite, and Joshua answered the appeal gamely, opening up a slight lead. Atomic Wave, too, showed courage after the blistering half, hanging on with determination while Radar Man closed considerable ground to enter the picture. These three were in a package at the finish, but Joshua, although conceding the others two pounds, appeared to dominate his opposition.
