Schooling Sessions Get Under Way at Randall Classes Held Each Morning in Preparation for Friday Opening RANDALL PARK, North Randall, Ohio, June 28. Starter Charles H. McMillan arrived here last week from his home in San Saba, Tex., and with a crew of three men immediately set about schooling horses from the gate. McMillan stated that schooling hours daily will be from 7 until 9 a. m. The majority of the 1,000 horses expected for the Randall Park meeting will be sent from the starting gate in morning trials before the beginning of the meeting July 2. This will entail considerable labor for McMillan. He has a capable crew of assistants however, listing on his staff J. E. "Jock" Locklear, Orville Harrell, M. P. Marvin and brothers Clarence and Matt Anderson. McMillan has never held a starting post j at any o the major race tracks, alt"h I he has gained a high reputation as a starter here and at other tracks which he has worked, including Dade Park, Fair-mount Park, Wheeling Downs, Lincoln, Nebr., Spokane, Wash., Sportsmans Park and the Fair Grounds in Phoenix, Ariz., and many other small meetings in Nebraska and Montana. A large man with a soft Texas drawl, McMillan is particular in every phase of operation in his profession. He uses his own starting gate, which he designed, and is the only gate in use featuring a double-lock on the doors. The gate he will use here consists of 12 stalls with V-shs-ed dcors and a minimum of superstructure to obstruct his vision.
