George Gains Starting Governors Topweight Expected to Take Up 121 This Week-End; Conniver Doubtful NARRAGANSETT PARK, Pawtucket, R. I., June 28. Conniver, owned by Harry LaMontagne, has been assigned top weight of 122 pounds for the fifteenth running of the Governors Handicap at Narragansett Park next Saturday. The four-year-old Discovery The Schemer filly has been improving with each start and gaining recognition among the top members of the weaker sex to race on the eastern seaboard this year. The possibilities of Conniver, runner-up to Stymie in Saturdays Aqueduct Handicap, being sent here appear remote at this time and it is expected that George Schneiders George Gains will be the starting highweight of the Governors under his impost of 121 pounds. The son of He Did has been returned here after his unsuccessful invasion of Monmouth Park over the week-end. George Gains is one of four bracketed at 121 pounds by racing secretary Ty Shea, but the others, Myron Newmeyers Turbine, Marlet Stables Vertigo TX, and Maine Chance Farms Knockdown, are stabled at Monmouth Park, Delaware Park and Belmont Park in the order named. No word is expected from any of the trios connections concerning the Governors Handicap. The next three eligibles on the weight roster are Lazy F Ranchs Calvados, 119; Bermill Farms Bug Juice and Caifero, who also is owned by LaMontagne, each with 118 pounds assigned. None of this group are considered potential starters. Jack McKnights Agrarian-U is being pointed for the mile and 70 yards test land under his 117-pound burden may be a stern opponent. Recent sprint efforts of the Agrarian gelding have left many observers with the opinion he would do better in the middle distance events. With a two-week rest under his belt, Agrarian-TJ may have regained the stamina needed to return to winning form.
