Lock and Key Definitely Asserts Her Superiority Gallops Home Seven Lengths to Good in National Hurdle Stakes DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 28. Running and leaping like a sprightly fawn, Crispin Oglebays four-year-old filly. Lock and Key, this afternoon captured the inaugural running of Delaware Parks National Maiden Hurdle Stakes, establishing a new course record of 3:05 for the mile and three-quarters event. Negotiating the eight hurdles without a bobble, the daughter of Easton and Level Head set the pace throughout under Kay Jensen and drew clear on the final flat to win easily by seven lengths over Henry S. Horkheimers Rank. Auburn Farms Charioteer was a similar distance back in third position, with the favored Zodiac II. a distant fourth after failing to reach contention during the running. Conditions for the National Maiden Hurdle stipulate that nominees must be non-winners at the time of closing which was March 15, 1948. Lock and Key fell into a suitable category, but since the race closed, the Oglebay filly has won two hurdle events, the most recent over the local course. She was a .50 favorite with the crowd of about 8,500 to complete a consecutive triple, and she did so with apparent ease, taking down the ,175 winners share without so much as a deep breath. Owner Oglebay and trainer J. P. Jones accepted the winning trophy from Mrs. J. Simpson Dean, wife of the vice-president of the Delaware Steeplechase and Racing Association.
