Longacres Offers Stake Program of 10,000 0000 Mile Feature Slated For Renewal on August 29 LONGACRES, Renton, Wash., June 28. A stake and handicap program totaling 10,000 has been announced by Joseph Gottstein, president of the Washington Jockey Club, highlighted by the 13th presentation of the 0,000 Longacres Mile. Something new for Washington breeders will be the first running of an exclusive homebred handicap for fillies and mares. Named the Fashion Handicap, this six-furlong sprint for ladies, 3-year-olds and up, is scheduled for Monday, July 5, and carries a purse of ,000. This is the first such offering in the Northwest history of the Thoroughbred sport. Racing for the 1948- season will be conducted Wednesdays through Sunday, with Mondays and Tuesdays dark. The only two exceptions are Monday, July 5, and Monday Labor Day, September 6.
