i ■ Miss Nosoca in Decisive Rancocas Stakes Score Boshamer Homebred Whips Cinda By Three and One-Half Lengths By WILLIAM PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 26.-;— Cary C. Boshamers Miss Nosoca this afternoon decisively defeatedJiine rival two-year-old fillies in the tenth and richest edition of the Rancocas Stakes. Jockey Frank Bone rode the daughter of Vincen-tive and Samovar, who kept running through the last three-sixteenths of a mile while the others were fading and she handily arrived at the conclusion of the five furlongs with an advantage of three and. one-half lengths. Her time of :59% over a fast track was only one-fifth of a second short of the record for this event which was set by the champion filly Bed o Roses in 1949. Jouett Shouses Cinda began slowly as she has done in several of her past engagements, and was forced to wend forward between horses and then to the outside to come oh and finish second. Cinda was two lengths before Mrs. F. Sharpe and R. Mullen, Jr.s, Swell Dish, who gained third money in a photograph over P. Godfreys Rachel G. A large throng of 25,595 viewed the dash, which was run under clear skies and a gentle southerly breeze that brought no comfort from the warmth and humidity. Impressed by her last race in which she was Continued on Page Five Miss Nosoca in Decisive Rancocas Stakes Triumph Boshamer Homebred Whips Cinda By Three and One-Half Lengths Continued from Page One defeated a nose in near record time by the colt Fred R., the public made Miss Nosoca their choice and she paid .60. Her Philadelphia owner reaped in a tidy 4,275 as the winners share of a gross purse of 9,700. Hal Price Headleys Papoose, who finished third in the Fashion Stakes at Belmont Park, was made a close second choice, but she was practically eliminated with a, poor start and finished-sixth. The Menow filly apparently was "rocking" in the gate, and went slightly in the air while breaking last. Mrs. W. J. Lees Chrisinda, who placed second in the Fashion and was expected to be a lukewarm favorite, was a late withdrawal, along with Mrs. A. Roberts Some Case and Sunshine Stables Blessusgals. J. M. Lee, Chrisindas trainer, was not satisfied with the fillys temper this morning and decided to permit her a rest after her recent rigors of shipping back and forth from New York. Miss Nosoca, bred by her owner at his" farm in Clover, S. C, was named by combining the abbreviations of North and South Carolina. It was noticed that she was perhaps the most unimpressive filly in the race. While the others were sleek and well rounded, Miss Nosoca was tall and rangy, with a rather scrawny neck and narrow chest. Her color is a dull and dirty brown. Owner Boshamer has had high regard for her since she was placed in training, however, and her appearance did not deter her ability today. She has started twice previously, finishing a, third and a second and was a maiden until todays victory. Rachel G., Mile. Ell and Swell Dish formed a phalanx in front of Miss Nosoca during the early stages. They were all under brisk urging and it appeared at this stage that Miss Nosoca would not be able to join them. Rounding into the stretch, however, an opening developed next to the rail, and jockey Bone alertly sent his charge rushing through to reach the front. She then continued to hold her speed, while the others gradually "backed up," and Cinda came around them to make her belated bid.
