Chicago Downs to Offer 75,000 in Stake Races Both Sportsmans Trot and Pace Lure Stars of Respective Divisions An imposing program of stake events, totaling more than 75,000 in purses will, be offered horsemen during the coming 54-night harness racing meeting at Sportsmans Park, where the Chicago Downs Association will stage its third annual sulky session. The meeting will open Monday night, June 11, and run through August 11. Topping the list of stakes are two races with an estimated value of 6,000 each, both of which made history in1950. The two races are the 0,000 added Sportsmans Trot, a one-dash affair at one and one-half miles, which attracted 18 of the best trotters in the nation, and the 0,000 added Sportsmans Pace, also at the marathon distance of one and one-half miles. In the pace event 17 highly rated pacers will vie for honors. The Sportsmans Trot comes up for decision Saturday night, August 4,.and is to be headed by such notables ,as Hayes Fair Acres Stables Pronto Don, winner of the two-mile trot championship at Roosevelt N. Y; Raceway last year; Ralph and Gordon Verhursts Proximity, which broke the all-time high money-winning mark set by Goldsmith Maid in the 1865-1877 period, when she won the Sportsmans Trot last year. Also listed are Sunny Brook Stables Fay Scott, Glen Barkers Moses, a Chicago favorite; Bartell Brothers Joe Donlin, Dr. C. D. Englands Buddy Patchen, Vincent Spencers Gene Long, H. H. Travellers Guy Paula, F. A. Streichs Private Pat, Dr. C. L. Wallards Scots Guard, Mr. and Mrs. Harrison R. Hoyts Demon Hanover, victor of one dash in last years 0,000 Sportsmans Trot, defeating Proximity; B. C. Cruick-shanks Brewers Gallon, Reed -Yates Farms Lucky Lee Prince, Harry W. Bur-rights Jerry A. Hanover, Lachenmaier Brothers Freeman Hanover, .Arthur D. Knapps entry of Little Steve and Clever Sunny and C. Halls Jeffery Hanover. The big pacing race is scheduled for Friday night, August 10, a night before the meeting closes. Heading the list of eligibles for the event is another Hayes Fair Acres star Dudley Hanover, winner of the 0,000 Little Brown Jug Classic and Brown Stables Royal Blackstone, winner of the two dashes in the Sportsmans Face in 1950 and top money winner of last years Sportsmans Park meeting. Others slated for the mile and one-half pace feature are Charles G. Miles Thomas Hat, Ralph Stouts Mr. Dale, Cheney Brothers Widow Worthy, M. D. McCleans Tempered Volo, Harry Eckerts Brother Harmony, Mrs. Mildred Kniselys Hodgen, Roy S. Riegles Chief Mite, E. C. Moriartys Mighty Sister, Castleton Farms Scottish Pence, Lucien Diones Dr. Parker, J. R. Lanevilles Ballerina Grattan, Alex Parsons Danny Direct, Albert Friess Guest Star and Dr. C. D. Englands Hand Book. Prior to the running of the two big races a pair of sprint championship affairs at six and one-half furlongs will be among1 the better stake events.
