► / — Carter to Have Few Non-Title Bouts Before Defending Crown First Probably Will Be With Savoi at Montreal; May Meet Williams Again in August By JACK CUDDY United Press Sports Writer NEW YORK, N. Y., May 26 UP. — Lightweight champion James W. Carter decided today to have two or three non-title bouts before defending in late August against Ike Williams, from whom he won the crown last night. Manager Willie Ketchum said one of the non-title opponents probably would be Canadian Arm and Savoi at Montreal in July. Williams had no return-bout contract before losing his 135-pound championship to Carter on a technical knockout in the fourteenth round at Madison Square Garden last night. However, Carter has agreed to give Ike a return if he wants it. Frank Palermo, Williams manager, asked officials of the International Boxing Club for the return .scrap today and matchmaker Al Weill said it would be staged in late August if possible. Meanwhile, commissioner Abe J. Greene of the National Boxing Association was seeking formal recognition of Carter as champion fronY the NBA executive committee in dfder to make "official" Greenes pre-fight statement that last nights winner would be recognized as titleholder. Received ,000 for Victory Greene had stated at Paterson, N. J., Thursday night: "Although the NBA does not approve of Carter as challenger, it will recognize the Williams-Carter winner as champion." Carters total check approximated only ,000 for last nights victory in the fourteenth round, but the trim New York Negro was elated at winning the title with which Williams had garnered purses totaling more than 00,000. Featherweight champion Sandy Saddler and Archie Moore, No. 1 light heavyweight contender, flew to Buenos Aires today to campaign five weeks in Argentina and other South American countries. They were accompanied by manager Charley Johnston. Saddler is slated for four non-title bouts, but Johnston said he would be willing to stage a title defense in Argentina "if any real money is offered." Sandys first opponent will be Alfredo Prada at Buenos Aires next Saturday. Moore has six bouts slated. Meanwhile, Lou Viscusi, manager of ex-champion Willie Pep, discussed with matchmaker Al Weill terms for the proposed fourth title bout between Pep and Saddler at Madison Square Garden, August 15.
