Fairmount Park Opening-Night Wagering Shows Big Increase FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, HI., May 26. — A crowd of 10,139 was in attendance at Fairmount Park on Friday night to witness the return of facing to this course for a twenty-nine day meeting. This topped last years opening night crowd when 9,682 were on hand. However, a more drastic increase was shown in the mutuel liandle when 35,325 was wagered on the nights program compared to 53,604 for last years spring session, an increase of 1,721. Joseph P. Broderick, secretary of the Illinois Racing Board, journeyed here from Chicago to be on hand, as did R. Bennig-sen, secretary and treasurer of Fairmount Park and general manager of Hawthorne. Great satisfaction with the opening was expressed by Bennigsen as well as the entire management of Fairmount Park. Silver Creek Farms Dandy G. scored an upset in winning the featured Norwine Chevrolet Co., Inc., Purse by holding a half-length margin over Mrs. E. Oros Fun Quest, after completing the six furlongs. Hen Sprig, owned by the Verde Stock Farm, finishing third. Dandy G., handled by apprentice Louis Grandsart, returned 6.60, and the time of the event was 1:13.
