Churchills Colonist Game White Rose Stakes Winner LONDON, England, May 26 Reuters .— In another game performance, Winston Churchills grand gray router, Colonist, won the White Rose Stakes, run over 15 furlongs at Hurst Park today. Ridden by Tommy Gosling, Colonist started as a 2 to 1 co-favorite with King George VI.s filly, Above Board, who won the 1950 Cesare-witch Stakes. Churchills colorbearer forged to thei front shortly after the break and made the pace for the long route to beat the French challenger, Pan, by one length, with Above Board three lengths away and third in the field of six starters. The victors time was 3:17% on the heavy track. Britains war-time Prime Minister beamingly led his popular horse into the winners enclosure and in conjunction with trainer Walter Nightingall agreed his next race will be the Ascot Gold Cup.
