CHIPPEWA CHIEF, farther back early than usual, came between horses for the stretch run, but could not seriously endanger the top one. DOCTOR L. E. closed with good courage to finish on even terms with SHOW PLACE. The latter lacked early speed. ONE ROSE gave way suddenly inside the stretch. ARCHIBALDO quit DEEP FEN was unable to keep up. BEIRUT, unhurried when outrun early, came out to the better part of the track for the drive and, under adept handling, was up in the concluding strides to outfinish KAY DOODY. The latter slipped through along the inside rail to reach the lead, nearing the furlong marker and held on tenaciously. FIRST TENET finished resolutely and probably would prefer a longer distance. CALLED faltered when placed to punishment. BRITISH ISLES quit ROADRUNNER had no mishap. CONVALESCENT was not unduly persevered with when hopelessly beaten. OH LEO faltered when set down for the drive. YALEMAN passed tiring horses. SEVEN TRIX was between horses throughout most of the journey. RED CHARGER made up some ground during the late stages. ROBERT began alertly, but was unable to keep up. BROWN PIRATE was always outrun. EDS PRIDE, fractious at the post, retired steadily after showing speed during the early running.
