► ■ H National Maiden HurdleStakes At Belmont Draws Field of Ten Steel Blue Looms as Choice;* Run Suburban on Wednesday And CCA Oaks on Week-End BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L, I., N. Y., May 26. — New York racegoers will be offered a wide variety of stake events in the week to come at Belmont Park. The four fixtures on the agenda are Mondays Belmont National Maiden Hurdle at about a mile and three-quarters, in which the favorite will probably be Harry Lamon-tagnes Steel Blue, a newcomer to the brush sport; the historic Suburban Handicap at a mile and a quarter on Wednesday; the Belmont Spring Maiden Steeplechase at about two miles on Thursday, and the classinc Coaching Club American Oaks at a mile and three furlongs Saturday. Weights for the 65th running of the 0,000 Suburban, traditional Memorial Day fixture at Belmont Park, were released yesterday and Brookmeade Stables hard-hitting Greek Ship is expected to go postward under "his top impost of 126 pounds, * though his connections refused that burden in the shorter Metropolitan Mile. Greek Ship had already been "stretched out" to a mile and three-sixteenths for the Gallant Fox, in which he was narrowly beaten by County Delight and Palestinian. Other Suburban Probables The other probables for the Suburban are. Lights Up, 123; County Delight, 122; Three Rings, 120; Ferd and One Hitter, 118; Next Move and Oil Capitol, 114; Mount Marcy, 111; Lone Eagle, 109; On the Mark, 106, and Gaffery, Mr. Trouble and Navy Chief, with 105 each. Palestinian, 124, will not race until Aqueduct, while Cochise, 120, is a possibility, though his last two races were poor. Though 74 sophomore fillies are eligible to the Oaks, which is also a 0,000 added event and is having its thirty-fifth running, three appear to stand out above their rivals. These are Walter M. Jeffords lightly raced Kiss Me Kate, romping winner of the faster edition of the Acorn Stakes on Wednesday; Harry Lamontagnes Valadium, who won her first start of the year here yesterday, after being all but left at the start of that six furlongs, and Herman Delmans How, winner of the Kentucky Oaks and a disappointment in the second half of the Acorn, in which she lost a shoe and was unable to handle the sloppy track after that mishap. Not Shod for Sloppy Track A few of the beaten horses in both divisions of the Acorn may show to better advantage in the Oaks as most of the fillies in that divided stake were not shod for the sloppy track. Wednesdays field for the classic filly contest is almost certain to include Isidor Biebers Nothirdchance, winner of the slower half of the Acorn; Apheim Stables Jacodema, Llangollen Farms Wisteria, Mrs. Jan Burkes Who Dini, Belair Studs Vulcania, Greentree Stables Ruddy, Starmount Stables Signal and a few others. Mondays Belmont National Maiden Hurdle and its counterpart over the bigger fences on Thursday gain most of their interest from the "new faces" that they will introduce to the field sport. Steel Blue, who is making his debut over hurdles, won on the flat at Jamaica this year, then raced unsuccessfully against the best of the handicap division in the Gallant Fox and Metropolitan. Last year, the gelded brother to Blue Swords showed considerable class on the flat, though he was originally intended as a jumper by the late Mrs. F. Ambrose Clark and thoroughly schooled by Dolly Byers before he was acquired by Lamontagne. Steel Blue schooled impressively here this morning. Steel Blues Chief Rivals Steel Blues chief rivals Monday appear to be James F. McHughs Jam, Sanford Stud Farms Fulton, John M. Schiffs El Arabi and Guy De La Fregonnieres Don Jose n. The latter distinguished himself by finishing last in his two starts at this meeting, but has abundant speed, jumps well and is sure to improve. Thursdays steeplechase is expected to mark the debut over the big fences of A. Edward Masters - Titien n.f the French horse who has just about raced himself out of the hurdle division. Titien n., who holds the local hurdle record at about a mile and three-quarters and won at that distance this week under 155 pounds, has been schooling cleverly over the chase course. Four Oaks candidates have been named for Mondays sixth race, a seven-furlong test named the Roseleaf, in which they meet nine others. The Oaks fillies in the extended dash are Howell E. Jacksons Up Early and Intelligence, C. V. Whitneys Fleecy Cloud and Cain Hoy Stables Shy Bim. The latter, who breaks from the inside stall, is the probable favorite. VESTER R. WRIGHT — Sent out a pair of winners on Saturdays Detroit program. Gallajaci scoring in the fourth and Dear Tint in the sixth race.
