Set Master Mind Back for Fouling Favorite Second to Keezek Colt, but Is Placed Fourth Behind Mr. Bam, Mahplay By CHARLES HATTON ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 28. — Signal Code carried the brown and green banner of J. P. "Tiny" Keezek to a well earned success in the Berkshire, a race of six furlongs for ,000 sprinters which had feature billing on this afternoons card at Arlington Park. Jockey Johnny Adams had the mount on the four-year-old Flares colt, and gave him the benefit of some deft handling in a bit of a jam about the sixteenth pole, slipping through on the inside and driving to the line the better part of a length in front. P. L. Kelleys favored Master Mind finished second, a length and a half in advance of Mrs. H. P. Bonners Mr. Bam, with Reverie Knolls Mahplay fourth, another half length back in a field of eight. The officials changed this order of placing, however. Master Mind was lugging in badly, despite Georgie Souths efforts to straighten him, when he charged up outside Mr. Bam and Mahplay, bothering both of these runners. Don Scurlock, on Mr. Bam, lodged an objection against the favorite and after an inquiry the stewards gave Mr. Bam the second award, placing Mahplay third and Master Mind, fourth. Old Fiddle Successful The successful Keezek performer paid his scattering of backers .20 for , and he carried 116 over the distance in 1:11%. The going was fast but the sport was presented in overcast and threatening weather. The attendance was held down to 9,665. In the days secondary event, several two-year-olds having stakes engagements were • brought together, and the Brown Hotel Stables Old Fiddle gave a smart performance. Signal Code never was far off the pace in the Berkshire, rating along while saving ground on the inside as Mahplay and Mr. Bam made the running. Straightened up I for the run through the stretch he struck . hard inside those two passing the furlong pole, was fortunate enough to escape the . jam and was drawing out under continued pressure at the line. Mr. Bam prompted Mahplay around the I turn and while they were engaging one an-: other coming to the sixteenth pole they . were joined by Signal Code on the inside , and Master Mind on the outside. Master I Mind lugged in on Mr. Bam, who was j crowded over on Mahplay, both being , backed out of contention. Avaricious had speed all the way but could ;! not cope with the winner, though he tried willingly when Bailey placed him to pressure. Another two and a quarter lengths s back Reverie Knolls War Antique was third in a field of six. The disappointment here was Hudgens, who was well up on the * inside through the early furlongs but 1 couldnt gain contention. The winner returned " 1.40 and was timed in 1:0645. He e had been third running for ,500 in his latest start. Astro was installed an odds-on choice in n the fourth, a run of six furlongs for maiden fillies and mares, but finished a rather distant - second to Mrs. G. Sturgeons Miss Revoked, ridden by apprentice Henry Schab. Miss Revoked raced Rugene into submission early, then shook off Libba on the e turn and opened up four lengths through ti the stretch. Astro was her usual sluggish h self the first part of it, finished well under r Adams hustling through the home lane e but couldnt trouble the winner. Libba a hung on for third, three lengths farther x back. The race was run in l:124s and Miss ,3 Revoked, who was getting six pounds from n Astro, returned 4.40. The crowd installed Bridge the favorite e to whip 11 other three-year-old platers ■s going six furlongs in the opener, but the e best he cculd do was finish third behind B. 5 Fogelsons Oatburner and M. Muroffs 5 Whiz-A-Bit. Oatburner paid 1.40 and d was timed in 1:13 Vs. The second race was a division of the e first, and here again the choice was third when Trick Flier earned that award behind J. F Becks Town Sheik and Mrs. N. M. r Mikels Liability. Grandsart rode Town n Sheik, who paid 4 and rounded out a 09 Daily Double. The race was run in n 1:13 5. identical time after the first. The third was for maiden two-year-olds I valued at ,000 and went to Mrs. M. P. , Bonners highly fancied Brown Llama, ridden by Don Scurlock. She broke smartly, J" went to the front at the end of the back-stretch, then opened up two and a half f lengths under steady urging. Ray Anken-bauers Our Beauty took the place before e E. W.
