Gris-1 soms Sorority and Marion H. VanBergs Whammo, which pair finished a nose apart in a six-furlong sprint on June 21, are to renew their duel here tomorrow in the Ann Arbor claiming purse at the same distance. Sorority beat the VanBerg representative in that engagement and the two are ex-5 pected to draw the bulk of the public support when they meet seven other quick platers in tomorrows dash. Hustling Lois Cook probably will guide Whammo while apprentice Sherman Armstrong has been engaged by trainer Walter Susini to handle Sorority. Sorority will be trying for her fourth success of the 1951 campaign and she comes up to the Ann Arbor with a splendid record. Along with her trio of conquests, the Grissom mare has been second on two occasions this year and she also was four times third in 11 starts. Whammo gave a splendid effort against Sorority although defeated and his recent morning trials have been decidedly on the quick side. Last season, the VanBerg geld- ing visited the winners circle after four of his outings and he was second and third four times each after 14 appearances under silks. Over Night, aged gelding, is to race coupled with Whammo and certainly will give the Columbus, Nebr., turfman, VanBerg, a strong hand for major honors in the Ann Arbor. Over Nights outstanding performance thus far this year came about at Washington Park on May 19 when he turned back a useful band at one mile and one sixteenth over the turf course, stepping the distance to a front-running accounting in a clever l:4S|fc. John Hart, veteran conditioner, also is to have a duo in the Ann Arbor, his own Convicted and Mr. and Mrs. J. Bartletts Little Baboo. Convicted won a decision here early in the meeting over Nightlife, Sorority, Ariel Sweep, and others in a three-quarter mile spin and, previous to that success, finished second at Churchill Downs. Little Baboo also is a winner at the current meeting and he has displayed good speed in all of his local engagements. Gerald Champagne may get the mount on Little Baboo while Tommy Barrow is slated to ride Convicted. Others entered in the Ann Arbor are A. F. Walls Bona Eternal, B. P. Walkers Chancelot, L. A. Wesleys Ringador, and Mrs. M. V. Hawleys War Host. Ringador was a double winner at Louisville and also scored at Detroit while War Host, a noted "off" track racer, defeated The Peer, Sorority and My Freedom, among others, in a six-furlong sprint at Gulfstream over a muddy strip. Two-year-olds are to clash in the best supporting event and 16 members of that age division are named for the five-furlong fourth race. Included in the field are such 1 ] ! ] I 3 . : : ; ! : : : shifty youngsters as the Grissom Stables Our Cindy, a recent winner; The Metz and Gleeson-Litwin entry of Kisses Heart and Sarahs Scholar; the Henry Forrest condi- tioned pair, Pollard and Harkins Pixie Pat, victor in his last local outing, and Forrests own Go At It. Mrs. George C. White and J. S. Tupper are to rely on Hoptown and others entered in the juvenile dash are E. Baileys Night Fog, Samuel Segrettos New Orleans-owned Lady Pomp, F. G. Farros Frederika W., Jacob Shers Our Peggy, George A. Cavanaughs Connie-Jo, Mrs. J. OBreys Sweet Sigrid, M. and I. Pri- cketts Saddlers Joy, George Collins Thistle War, Mrs. M. J. Hoydics Bolton, and Ed- ward Kitchens Landmark Gal, a winner during the Motor City season.
