Illinois Notes FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsvilie. 111., May 23. Leon Grandsart, who recently became a full-fledged jockey, and was Fairmounts leading rider last year, is on hand to handle the Hilltop Farm horses under the supervision of Carl Blair. Placing judge Dave Russell, who is making his first appearance in the Middle West as an official, joins racing secretary J. J. Klucina staff. He xecently completed his duties as placing judge at the recently completed Toledo Jockey Club meeting. Russell has been acting in an official capacity at Floridas top meeting for a number of years. Forrest Rooney arrived from .his home in Chicago and will take over his clerk of scales duties. Rooney is starting his sixteenth year as an official at the local course. Trainer Herb Perry lias taken over the training duties of the trio owned by Dr. C. N. Salerno. The racers are Sal Quest, Promise, and Don-Buzz. For H. M. Wel-born of Phoenix, Arizona, Perry has Bee Crest, Hieland Dare, and the two-year-old, Valetta Bee. The Kurelik and Scott stable arrived from Lincoln Fields in Chicago with Nictor, victor in his last outing over that oval; The Flier, who finished second, and Milli Victor. John C. Daniel, who completed his duties as an official at Sportsmans Park and Lincoln Fields, joined the staff of Jack Klucina, racing secretary, and will handle the public address system for both Fair-mount meetings. Harold Deming, who has had excellent success with his stable at Fair Grounds, Oaklawn and the recently concluded Sportsmans Park meeting, has Evidence, Card Sharp and the speedy Loutey ready for the spring meeting. Jockey William Hawksworth, who will do the major share of riding for the John Noble contingent, arrived from Chicago and reported to his contractor. Anthony Iudica, leading apprentice at the fall meeting, at Sportsmans Park last year, is on the grounds and will handle the Glenn Gorbet racers. Apprentice Edward Joyce has joined the local riding colony and his riding engagements will be handled by ex-jockey Robert Montgomery. Young Joyce recently rode at ; the Fort Miami meeting and reached the1 winners circle with eight of his 30 mounts. After riding on the program at the Lincoln Fields meeting on Wednesday, jockey Melvin Duhon motored to this oval to be on hand for the opening night program. The popular rider will ride free lance throughout this meeting and liis riding engagements will be handled by Lou Brown.
