Jackson Raceway Showing 40 Pet. Increase Over 51 j Rainy Weather Fails to Dim Fans .Enthusiasm; Master Scott Stars JACKSON, Mich., May 23. At the halfway mark in its scheduled 32-night sprint harness racing meeting, Jackson Raceway is showing a 40 per cent increase in wager-, ing totals over the corresponding period a year ago, in spite of two weeks- of cold, rainy weather, which forced four cancellations of complete programs. In addition, the first 10 days of the meeting had the handicap of dwindling gasoline, supplies, which materially affected attendance. With 12 of the 20 scheduled stake events already run, Master Scott, the five-year-old bay gelding .trotter owned by Frank Cripps of Mason,.Mich has given the most consistent performance, having won all six starts at Jackson under the expert handling of his owner. In every instance, Master Scott went to the post as the odds-6n favorite. In the Livinston Trot, scheduled for this coming Monday, he is expected to meet stiff er competition. A total of 29 fast-stepping trotters were nominated for this event and there is a possibility, when declarations are in, that it may be split into two divisions. With the opening of the thoroughbred racing season in Michigan at the Detroit race track on Friday, Jackson Raceway is anticipating a sharp increase in wagering based on its experience of last season when it was discovered that many of the more rugged horse-players went directly from the Detroit oval to the night session at Jackson. Greyhound buses will provide special express service from the Michigan Racing Associations Livonia track to Jackson Raceway, leaving 15 minutes after the last race daily and arriving in Jackson 10 minutes before post time for the first race. This service will supplement the regualr track buses, which leave Washington Boulevard terminal in downtown Detroit daily at 5:45.
