Royal Ma rye I Gets Real Test at Suffolk Sirayo Racer, Unbeaten at Track, Concedes Seven Foes Four to Seventeen Pounds By AVERY BROWN Stat J Correspondent SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 23. Royal Marvel, Eddie Siravos hope for the impending Yankee Handicap, gets a real test tomorrow when he picks up 120 pounds as the highweight in the Constitution Handicap and concedes from four pounds up to 17 to seven three-year-old rivals at Suffolk Downs. The mile and a sixteenth week-end feature at this seaside oval carries an added value of ,000 and is considered as a prep for the richer event to be run on June 17. Pitted against the Siravo colt is J. L. Friedmans Oreo, 116; E. P. Rodriguez Academy Award, 112; Mrs. T. Peznola and Ralph Lentinis Desirable, 108; R. S. Parker, Jrs Occupatic, 106; Jay-Bob Stables Im Sandy, 105; Annaloro and Tereses Nola Hash, 104, and A. W. Halls Poopcha, 103. Royal Marvel, winner of five races this year, has never been defeated at Suffolk Downs and has a skein this year of three triumphs to his credit. Twice the bay son of Royal Nap won convincingly at six furlongs and in his last outing, came from off the pace in a mile and 70 yards event to take the measure of Oreo, Im Sandy and Nola Hash. One of the best looking "colts to perform in this sector in a long time, Royal Marvel is asked to tote the heaviest burden of his brief career and it will also mark the first time he has traveled the distance of the Constitution Handicap. Jockey Roberto Gonzalez, who has ridden Royal Marvel nine times in his two years of racing and won five of those events, will again be in the saddle for the colts most important endeavor. Academy Award May Answer Question Just how good Academy Award is should be answered after the Balladier colts race tomorrow. Coming to the Boston track as a maiden, the chestnut charge of trainer Bill Resseguet immediately graduated from the non-winners ranks in a maiden allowance test. Following that effort with an impressive score in another allowance dash, Academy Award made it three in a row by defeating Sailed Away and Tippy Do on May 12. Although the Rodriguez colt has not been seen at distances over six furlongs, his manner of handling the sprint assignment suggests that the added route of the Constitution will not be out of his category. Oreo has been a disappointment this season but cannot be overlooked in the weekend stake. After closing out a successful two-year-old campaign with a triumph in an Endurance at Bowie last fall, the son of Bull Dandy was sent against the best - three-year-olds in New Orleans. After finishing second twice to Happy Go Lucky at the Crescent City track, he moved to Laurel and finished third to Cinda and Pintor in the Cherry Blossom. His next appearan.ee was at Jamaica where he failed in the shorter edition of the Experimental Handicap. Returning to Laurel; Oreo performed in good fashion to be third behind Handsome Teddy and Jampol in the Chesapeake. Stopping off at New York for a dismal race in the Wood, the Friedman ace arrived here. In three local appearances and while favored, he could do no better than fiinsh second, third and fourth. Desirable is probably the gamest of the contenders in the Constitution Handicap. That daughter of Junior Atlas has compiled a consistent record of being no worse than third in her last 10 starts. After being defeated a half length by Royal Marvel in their first start of the current meeting, Desirable has been victorious twice, once at a mile and 70 yards and the last outing was at six furlongs. Im Sandy has been showing decided improvement in her recent efforts and each of her three local outings have found her challenging -at 4,he end only to fall short by a slight margin. Occupatic and Nola Hash each won their last from less potent three-year-olds, but rate a good chance at tomorrows weights in this field. Poopcha is a speedy son of Carrier Pigeon, who earned his graduation papers at Churchill Downs this spring and has failed twice in local endeavors. Poopcha is also entered in a six-furlong allowance test, which precedes the feature.
