Fellow Named Ted Williams Attracting Baseball Scouts HARROGATE. Tenn., May 23. Memo to the Boston Red Sox: Theres a fellow named Ted Williams playing baseball at Lincoln Memorial University here, who might some day help relieve the agony caused by the departure of his more famous namesake for service with the Marines. This 19-year-old fielder and outfielder is beginning to attract the attention of major league scouts, and not just because his name happens to be Ted Williams. Williams has faced eight opponents this season, and has been the winner all eight times, striking out 110 batters in 81 innings. Twice he has fanned 15 opponents, once whiffed 12 batters, and collected 11 and 10 strikeouts on two other occasions. But his most impressive performance came in a relief role When LMUs starting pitcher was unable to retire the Union College Bulldogs in the first inning, Williams came in to whiff 18 of the 25 batters that faced him in the remaining eight and one-third innings. When he doesnt pitch, Williams takes to the outfield. He is currently hitting well over the; .350 mark, with many of his hits good for extra bases.
