Delaware Notes DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., May May 23. The 14 stakes to be run at Delaware Park, which opens May 29, attracted a total of 976 nominations, just enough to give the 1952 meeting a photo finish edge over last season, .when 975 were received for the same stakes. The racing silks of George D. Widener, absent, during Delaware Parks 1951 meeting, are expected to reappear this year: Among the best horses ever owned by the Philadelphia sportsman, who is dtiairman of New Yorks Jockey Club and .president of Belmont Park, is Battlefield a nominee to Delawares 5,000 mite and a quarter Sussex Handicap, to be run on July 4. Thoroughbreds representing Widener, who was seventh on the national list of money-winning stables the past two years, are trained by the able veteran, Bert Mulhol-land. Leo OGrady will again be in charge of Olympic Parking, Inc., here. The Stanton plant has 65 acres for this purpose, with surfaced parking lots for 12,000 cars, which can be cleared in 45 minutes. This is the largest parking space east of the Rockies. Delaware Park instituted paid parking 25 cents to eliminate the tipping evil. It provides free wrecking car and flat tire service, and fire insurance protection. Olympic has the parking concessions at all New York tracks. J. E. "Jim" Ryan, who conditions the horses owned by Mrs. E. duPont Weir and the Rokeby Stable, will be gunning for the title of leading trainer at Delaware Park for a third straight year. Ryan was the 1950 leader with 13 victories and repeated last year with an even dozen, two of which were stakes conquests by Rokebys Crooning Wind ih the Georgetown and Indian River Steeplechase Handicaps. The same horse is named for those fixtures again this season. The spaciousness of the Delaware Park stable area provides not only succulent grazing grounds for thoroughbreds, but also is excellent protection in case of fire. The distance between each barn is 250 feet, and except for the motor vehicle roads and horse walks, all of this ground is sowed with blue grass and clover. Delaware Park opens for 33 days on May 29. For the protection of. jockeys and exercise boys, Delaware Park will have two outriders on the tragus main mile oval during-training hoursWfMso during the same period, another outrider will be on duty at the five-furlong training track.
