Veteran Jockey Willie Pool Astride Winner at Cranwood CRANWOOD PARK, Warrensville Heights, May 23. The veteran rider, jockey William Pool, began his thirty-first year in the saddle here this afternoon and guided T. Dunns Hush Money to a neck victory over G. Bills Jr.s Meddlesome. Another one and three-quarters lengths farther back was Mrs. M. Pauls Dark Buckle, who, in turn, had a length lead over Carter and Dohertys Russell Cave. Those who fancied "Willies" chances were rewarded with a .60 mutuel after he and Hush Money covered six furlongs in 1:13. Pool limits his riding activities to the Cleveland area which embraces Cranwood Park, Ascot Park and Randall Park and the 47-year-old will be on hand for racing when the Thistle Down plant is re-built. A long time favorite of the fans, he was greeted with a great round of applause as he dismounted in the winners circle. In the sixth event, the Tryout, three potential Ohio Derby candidates carried off the money platings. Jockey James Baird had C. L. Leachs Jerrys Nebb two and one-half lengths in front of Wayne Kendricks Hardiness, with Stanley Austin in the sad- die eked out a nose over H. M. Simpsons One Piece which had William J. Murphy in the saddle. Timed the six and one-half furlongs in 1:21, the winner returned a 4.60, 6.20 and .60 mutuel across the board.
