Change in Speed Ratings Effective with the racing of January 1, 1952. the speed ratings appearing in DAILY RACING FORM past performances are based on a comparison of each horses running time with the track record. The track record will receive a standard rating of 100 — thus, a horse equaling the record will have a speed rating of 100. For each one-fifth second slower than the track record, one point is deducted. Therefore, the rating for a horse running his race two and one-fifth seconds slower than the track record receives a speed rating of 89 100 minus 11. EXAMPLE Track record 1:10 Rating figure 100 Winners time 1:10 Rating 99 Time of second horse 1:10 9-5 97 Time of third horse 1:11 95 Time of fourth horse l:ll?s 93 Time of fifth horse lOltt 91 One point the equivalent of one-fifth second is deducted from the rating for each length the horse is beaten. Thus, a horse beaten four lengths in a six-furlong race run in 1:11 rating of 100 where the track record is 1:10 is timed in 1:11%, receiving a speed rating of 91. Where a horse breaks the track record, his speed rating will exceed the standard rating of 100 by one point for each one-fifth second better than the track record. Thus, if the record is 1:10 and a horse is timed in 1:09%, his speed rating will be 102. —— — — — »
