INACCESSIBLE, in hand to the last three-eighths, was taken around horses at the stretch turn and, responding to punishment, disposed of STAR PIGEON, then held TRANCER safe. TRANCER, reserved to the stretch, was sent between horses during the drive and closed strongly, but could not overtake the top one. OPENING DAY lacked early speed, but finished fast. POLAR BATTLE gave a good effort and had no mishap. STAR PIGEON, much used racing TOMATO into defeat, had nothing left for the drive. SGT. ABE was never dangerous. KITTY WHISKERS began slowly and never reached serious contention. TOMATO went to the front early, made the pace for five-eighths mile, then gave way when challenged by STAR PIGEON. ARPEGE, away fast, raced with PRO TANTO to the final furlong, responded to punishment during the late stages and, after taking command, won going away. PRO TANTO went to the front soon after the start, made the pace to the last eighth, but could not withstand ARPEGE. MINNESOTA lacked early speed, moved up boldly nearing the stretch, but could not better her position when set down for the drive. ROBIN RED was outrun. SILK MAN lacked early speed. MIGHTY FOX could not keep up and raced wide through the stretch. SEDGEGOOD raced well for three-quarters mile, then weakened. TEMPTER was through early. Scratched— 57993 Magnus, 116. Overweight— Tempter, 1 pound. Attendance, 8,705; Total Mutuel Pool, 33,857.
