Roman Sandal Tops River Downs Sprint Dunn ©VKirkpatrick Sprinter May Be Shipped to Arlington If He Performs Well Today By R. E. rftRLEY Staff Correspondent RIVER DOWNS, California, Ohio, June 17. — Dunn and Kirkpatricks Roman Sandal, sprint champion of the Ohio circuit, heads the line-up in the featured Terrace Plaza Purse, eighth race on the usual nine-race Wednesday program. The feature has an equitable purse value of ,600, and 10 sprinters have been named overnight to oppose Roman Sandal at the six-furlong distance, including C. W. Riedengers Bonnie Teak, Bowie Stables Moose Pone, G. McFarlands Fighting Man, F. H. Swaims Mr. Fiske, F. R. Cramers Babys Broke, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Coles Good Record, T. W. and A. C. Fergusons Isit Cash, C. H. Youngs Sveltos, Mrs. J. Bronnenbergs Bless Me Lady, and B. G. M. Harrells Mr. Monica. Roman Sandal is no stranger to the Cincinnati racing fans for he lived up to his advance notices on June 4 when he galloped to a two-length victory over Mr. Fiske and four others of the Terra Plaza field in a creditable 1:11. Jockey Will Owens, who handled the son of Roman — Alaport, will again be at the reins and suits the horse particularly well. Owners Dunn and Kirkpatrick were visitors from the archives of their literary toil the last time their charge paraded postward, and they are again expected, especially since they have a good excuse to beat the heat. In Top Form Roman Sandal may be heading for greener pastures, depending on his performance tomorrow, for he has been staked for the sprints at Arlington Park. This fellow has a world of class and courage, but has been hampered through his racing career by shaky underpinning, but trainer Doug Davis, Jr. has his charge in better shape than ever in his career. Bless Me Lady seems to head the opposition for she was narrowly beaten in her lone River Downs start, while the time of the race was an identical 1:11, flat. The Bronnenberg miss drops weight from that engagement and may be difficult if she can steal a long lead. She did this at Beulah Park and wound up setting a track record. She will have to establish another tomorrow to show the way home to Roman Sandal. Scant hope is held for the others for they were outclassed in their other meeting with Roman Sandal. Mr. Fiske, Isit Cash, Babys Broke, Fighting Man and Moose Pone were behind him that day and they are superior in every respect to the remainder of the field. The chances for an upset are not likely.
