French Admiral Is s Ak-Sar-Ben Choice Van Berg Runner Set Mile, 70 Yards Track Record in j Last; Engages Six Today ! By J. SWEENEY GRANT Staff Correspondent J AK-SAR-BEN, Omaha, Nebr., June 17.— I Marion H. VanBergs French Admiral, who j established a new track record of 1:40% , for the mile and 70 yards distance in his j last start over the local strip, heads a group of seven named to contest tomorrows renewal of the Ak-Sar-Ben Ambassador ! Handicap. Several of his victims in his previous engagements again will contest the i new record-holder in the Ambassador over the same route. French Admiral is asked . to shoulder topweight of 116 pounds tomorrow in contrast to the 110 he carried in annexing his smashing victory in the recent Kings Plate Handicap. Next to French * Admiral in the weights is Guy and Walter Shultzs Butch K., who has been assigned 111. Comprising the remainder of the field are E. C. Team and Paul Younts Lunt, 107; the Loveland Stables First Blue, 106; Mrs. F. R. Glovers Panade, 106; Mrs. Paul Wey-ermans Caucus, 105; and, J. W. Coopers Undone, 103. French Admiral, a recent importation from Chicago where he was acquired by his present owner from Bernard W. Landy, was unsuccessful in his first attempt here after winning his last race in the Windy City. However, French Admiral really had his running shoes on in the Kings Plate. In that issue he emerged from the middle of the pack at the furlong marker to rapidly gain command and quickly draw away. French Admiral, well-conformed five-year-old son of War Admiral and Evangelist II.. raced for several years under the colors of the Reverie Knoll Farm of Freeman Keyes and though his record was not spectacular he did surprise on occasions while competing against the better racers in Illinois, Arkansas, and Kentucky. He has undoubtedly reached the height of his career since arriving here and most likely will rule the choice in tomorrows essay. Hank Manifold has been named to ride the son of War Admiral. Butch K. Winner of Two Handicaps Butch K. was the reigning champion of the routers until French Admiral took over. He previously had accounted for two of the "more lucrative handicaps here. He was no match for French Admiral in their last meeting in which he was defeated four lengths by the VanBerg gelding. Butch K. should show to better advantage in tomorrows race and he undoubtedly will be benefited by an eight-pound shift in weights in his favor. Roily Poulter most likely will be astride. Caucus was beaten the narrowest of margins in two of the local handicaps. The Weyerman performer first bowed to Butch K., then to the highly regarded Bolingcall. The three -year -old miss has been the gem of consistency while competing against the more experienced colts and geldings. As a result of her age and sex she always parades postward under a feathery impost, which tomorrow again could prove a determining factor. First Blue, Undone, and Panade, finished fifth, sixth and ninth, respectively behind French Admiral in the Kings Plate. First Blue had no apparent mishap in the race. Undone set most of the early pace in the issue and held sway for the initial six furlongs which were completed in 1.112£. According to past performances, Undone is not of handicap calibre, but is a better-than -average campaigner, who would account for numerous purses if not too ambitiously placed. Panade has been unimpressive in recent outings. The Glover colorbearer finished dead last to French Admiral last time in the field of nine. Blunt has been placed over his head during his Omaha stay and appears in the same category in tomorrows encounter.
