* | |-i. .;.-. .,.,1,.-" .;.". !, " .... .. .. ■■;-.■ Senators Triumph Over Sox, 6 to 4 Make Eleven Hits „ Off Three Pitchers Washington Bats Around in Fifth for Winning Scores; Stewart Slaps Four Safeties By the United Press Prank "Spec" Shea lasted only six and one-third innings against the Chicago White Sox, but his Washington teammates belted three Sox hurlers for 11 hits and a 6 to 4 triumph yesterday for his fifth win of the season. The defeat knocked the White Sox out of undisputed second place in the American League, leaving them exactly tied with the Cleveland Indians. The two clubs would hold second if Detroit beats Boston, or third should the Red Sox win. The Senators runs came in clusters of three as they overcame a three run Chicago edge, gained in the first inning. The winning scores came in the fifth as Washington batted around. Gil Coan singled and Jackie Jensen and Mickey Vernon doubled. After Pete Runnels grounded out, Jim Busby singled to drive home Vernon with the third run of the inning. Washington scored three in the second on a single by Runnels, a fielders choice on Busby and Floyd Baker, Mickey Grassos double for two scores and Sheas single for one. Sox Tally Three in First Joe Haynes worked the last 2 2/3 innings for the Senators, but Shea was charged with all the Sox runs. The Sox tallied three in the first on Chico Carrasquels single, a walk to Minnie Minoso, Eddie Robinson grounded out, Eddie ; Stewarts single, the first of his four hits for the day, and Leo Thomas single. The fourth run was in the seventh as Tom I Wright and Robinson walked, Stewart singled and Wright scored when" Ray Coleman hit into a double play. The defeat was charged to Skinny Brown, the Sox starter, his second against one win. Brown gave up 10 hits and all the Washington runs in 4 2/3 innings and needed relief from Bill Kennedy and Harry Dorish. Kennedy gave up the other hit.
